The LGBTQIA+ C.R.E.W. (Coalition for Resources, Encouragement, and Wellness) is proud to host the Book Clubbing event where students, staff, faculty, and members of the community can come together to discuss LGBTQIA+ positive books. This is a safe place both for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies to have fun, kick back, and talk about a great book. For our premiere event we’ll be reading Song of Achilles by Madaline Miller.
Song of Achilles is a celebrated novel with LGBTQIA+ themes based in the rich world of Homer’s The Iliad and The Odyssey. No prior knowledge of these works is needed though, as Miller guides the reader through both epic battles in a harrowing war, and quiet moments of two men who love one another.
Torreyson Library will have several copies of the book to check out, thanks to our great partners at the Arkansas Center for the Book. Once we run out of these, we would be happy to help you find other avenues for getting the book (although it may take a little bit of time to get them, so make sure to request your copy early). We’ll start checking them out on December 4, 2019 and we’ll have our get together on February 11, 2020 at 4pm in Torreyson Library room 215. We’ll be discussing the entirety of the book, so make sure to have it read or be prepared for spoilers!
Here's a copy of our flyer if you want to help us spread the word! (Please be sure to have permission to hang them).
