Library computer lab with new chairsDespite the lingering summer heat, Fall semester is upon us. We hope you had a relaxing summer break. The library has been busy working on its new look for the new school year!

In late spring and through the summer, we made some changes to improve student space within the library. The library purchased 99 new computers and monitors for the computer lab. The new monitors have larger screens, better resolution, and adjustable heights for greater accessibility. Three extra large monitors are now available in the group computer lab. Wireless keyboards and mice can be checked out at the Circulation Desk for use in the group computer lab. In August, the Canon printers in the computer lab were replaced with new Toshiba printers. Also, the library purchased new chairs for the computer lab.

In addition, remodeled study rooms have new chairs with a slim design to better fit library work space. Tutoring Services also transferred some newer chairs to library study areas, allowing several worn and damaged chairs to be retired.

On the second floor, old carpet has been replaced with laminate flooring in the Current Periodicals area, between the west elevator and the Administrative Suite, and around the large stairwell outside Tutoring Services. Further renovation of the second floor’s east end is tentatively planned for the summer of 2020.

The library recently updated its circulation policies. Students can now check out up to 50 books at a time. The previous limit was 25 books. If not returned by the due date, items checked out by students will now be automatically renewed twice before becoming overdue. Students will receive an email notification each time their library items are automatically renewed. Remember to check your UCA email account frequently to stay informed!

On Wednesday, August 28th, more study room renovation will begin on the first floor near the video collection. Four very small study rooms will be consolidated into one study room accommodating 3 to 5 students. Two study rooms across from the first floor vending area and one across from the video collection are slated for renovation later in the semester.

While some things have changed, the Library continues to provide:

  • Textbook check-out for in-library use;
  • Laptop check-out for in-library use;
  • $5.00 of pre-paid printing via library computers; and
  • Librarians and staff, ready to answer your questions!

Best wishes for a successful semester!
