From time to time we'll feature a member of the library faculty and staff. We hope you enjoy getting to know us!

I started working in Acquisitions last year, after working as the Evening Supervisor since arriving at UCA in 2014. I’ve worked in nearly all areas of library services but wanted to broaden my knowledge base by learning about the purchasing of items for the library.

How and/or why did you get into libraries?

I started working in academic libraries 17 years ago. After many years living in Austin, Texas, I returned to my hometown of Fayetteville and got a job as a work/study student in the Fine Arts Library at the University of Arkansas. Then I got a full-time position there. Over the years, I’ve also worked at University of Arkansas in Little Rock and at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston. I have loved books, reading, and libraries since I was small child, so working in a library was a natural fit for me.

What do you enjoy most about working in libraries?

Providing students with the resources they need is rewarding. Even more rewarding is watching their eyes light up when they figure out how to find sources themselves, like searching a database, with only a little guidance from me. And it’s always fun to interact with students and find out what topics or subjects are of interest to them.

What is something you wish people knew about the library?

Many students at UCA don’t seem to realize just how much information is available to them. In addition to books, journals, and DVDs, we have many online resources, including lots of different databases, as well as government documents and archives of UCA and Arkansas history. We can help students find information and resources on any topic.

What is your favorite book or genre?

Oh, gosh, I’m a book-lover, an old English major and I work in a library—I don’t have A favorite book, I have lots of favorite books! I read non-fiction, especially new books on current events, and my favorite genre is murder mysteries. Recently, I’ve been reading the detective novels written by Robert Galbraith, who is actually Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. They’re very good.
