Spring Break and the Library: What to know before you go

by Elizabeth DiPrince on 2019-03-12T12:56:39-05:00 | 0 Comments

After a spring semester with no breaks since the Martin Luther King Holiday and no snow days, most of us are very eager for Spring Break next week. Whether you are traveling, heading home to see your parents, or staying in town, here are few things you should know about the library before you go…

  • The library hours during the break. Over the break, the library has shortened hours and will be closed on some weekend days. The spring break hours are (complete listing can be found on our Library Hours page):
    • Saturday-Sunday, March 16-17: CLOSED
    • Monday-Friday, March 18-22: 8:00 am-5:00 pm
    • Saturday, March 23: CLOSED
    • Sunday, March 24: Open at 2:00 pm and resume normal hours
  • Due dates for library resources you have checked out. Check the due dates on items you have from the library, especially interlibrary loan items or equipment from the Circulation Desk such as calculators. Return what you don’t need and renew items you are still using. Library books can be renewed by stopping at the Circulation Desk or by viewing your Library Account. For interlibrary loan items, renewals can be requested in your URSA account or by calling the Interlibrary Loan Department at 501-450-5205.
  • How to access library resources off-campus. If you live on-campus or have only accessed research resources in the library, you may not know the process for accessing resources when you are away from campus. See Off-Campus Access on the library webpage for instructions and make sure you know your MyUCA username and password.
  • How to get help from your friendly librarian. While we have reduced hours during the break, librarians are here to help during our open hours. As always, you can visit us at the Reference Desk, give us a call at 501-450-5224, or send us a question through our email service, Ask Us
  • Where the fun library resources are located. The majority of library resources are academic sources which are great for study and research but not really that fun or relaxing. The library, though, does have a few fun collections. New fiction and popular non-fiction books are located in our Browsing Collection next to the Reference Desk. This area also has small but mighty collection of audiobooks which can greatly improve any long drive. Other popular collections are our Graphic Novel and Browsing DVD collections. All of these collections are located on the first floor for your browsing pleasure or can be searched using the Library Catalog.

Be safe and have a great Spring Break!
