Choosing to Stop When You Didn't Even Choose to Start

Available for Checkout: 11:00am - 2:00pm

Growing up during the 2000s with Seventeen Magazine and internet forums as my only nutrition and exercise guides plus an undiagnosed case of anxiety and mild Obsessive Compulsive Disorder created the perfect storm for my Eating Disorders and body-image issues. Was I aware of any of those things or how negatively they would impact my life? Not until I hit a wall physically and mentally in my mid-20s and did the most growing I've ever done in my life. This book recounts how I believe the seeds of my Eating Disorders sprouted and what they ultimately grew into before I finally became educated on how to take care of myself physically, emotionally and mentally.

Sometimes it takes a “hard reset” to come to terms with who you are, to peel back the layers of society’s expectations and embrace who you are. Even at 50 I hadn’t truly shed that onion skin, but during the pandemic I had to face up to my truth and learn to either shut down for good or live out loud.

This Books Says "Gay"

Available for Checkout: 10:00am - 1:00pm

This year, we’ve witnessed an onslaught of anti-gay and anti-trans legislation, with Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay Bill” standing out as especially cruel for its intent to invalidate queer identities and relationships through erasure. As a lesbian and a millennial who was raised in South Florida and attended all public schools, I understand not having the words to name your identity, and I know too well the consequences that come from growing up queer in an invalidating environment. I also know the power of language to liberate.

Girls can’t pitch in Little League. You’re not strong enough to carry those drums. You won’t get a music scholarship for that. You can’t be a female drumline captain in college. Young ladies shouldn’t be high school band directors. You have no business getting a doctorate. You can’t play tackle football; you’ll get destroyed. There’s never been a permanent female chair here. You can’t marry a woman. You’re too old to adopt children. What are you going to do if they have special needs? Some questions deserve only one answer.

"So...we would classify you as a Geriatric mother...." Having twins at age 40: A Control Freak's Journey through IVF, Postpartum angst and Working Motherhood."

Available for Checkout: 12:00pm - 2:00pm

The first time medical professionals told me I was classified a "Geriatric mother" at age 40, my jaw dropped (I mean...where is my AARP card?!). This book is about my 8 year journey through infertility and IVF, and the joy of finally becoming pregnant with twins at age 40. I had a difficult pregnancy, spent lots of time in the hospital on bed rest, and my eyes were really opened about how mothers are treated before birth and the very bleak contrast of how they are treated postpartum. Sometimes I get the label of having it all together, and hear "I don't know how you do it" juggling twins, jobs, marriage, extra activities, but the truth is none of us really has it together, so learning to let go of the little things and realizing that I can't give 100% to everything and everyone has been a truly humbling experience for this perfectionist (I'm not good at Math but those numbers don't add up).

They Banned What? My Ongoing Journey to Prevent the Local School Boards from Banning Books in our Schools

Available for Checkout: 1:00pm - 2:00pm

As a former English teacher I am passionate about many books, including the classics. Recently the Conway School District attempted to ban the book To Kill a Mockingbird, receiving a ton of community backlash. Spurred on by the attempts at book bannings, I decided to run for a position on the local School Board to promote intellectual freedom, the right to read, and prevent book bannings and censorship in our community! This is an ongoing tale!
