Advocates for All Arkansas Libraries works for the betterment of all libraries in Arkansas, to promote library services across the state, to support and protect libraries that are under threat, and to educate the public, state leaders, and legislators of the value and importance of libraries in Arkansas.
Arkansans for the Right to Read is a grassroots coalition of concerned Arkansans working to protect the First Amendment rights of every Arkansan. The coalition opposes the current movement to ban books from Arkansas libraries based on content subjectively deemed inappropriate. Its purpose is to educate the public and oppose any current or future legislation, regulations, or executive orders that unconstitutionally infringe upon your First Amendment rights and intellectual freedom.
With the severe uptick in local and statewide book challenges, ALA offers this clearinghouse of resources to assist library workers and library advocates in responding to and supporting others facing those challenges.
The 2018 ALA Emerging Leaders team was charged with creating a guide for AASL to support school librarians in addressing challenges related to censorship and patron privacy issues, particularly with LGBTQ+ materials.
