Journals

To determine if you have access to an article or journal through UCA Library, visit our library website. There are two options.

  1. Search the title of the article in the search bar at the top of the library website.
  2. Click on Publication Finder. Search the name of the journal (not article title, which is generally longer and more specific). Then, select the link that includes your article's year, and choose the volume, issue, article title and page number.

If your article isn't available through UCA Library, you may submit a request through Interlibrary Loan and we will try to obtain this from another library for you.

Books and Ebooks

Starting your search

Using search box on the library homepage, enter your search terms:

  • If you are doing a title search, start by using ti: before entering the title.
  • If you are doing an author search, start by entering au: before entering the author’s name

Tip: Combine the author and title terms with AND for the best results. For example: ti: Kindred AND au: Butler

Refining your search results

Once on your search results page, you can modify, expand, or refine your search.

  1. The search terms you entered remain at the top and can easily be modified.
  2. Filters used to limit the search, such as Print Book and ebook, are displayed near the top of the page. Filters can be removed by clicking on the purple x.
  3. Expand your search beyond Torreyson Library by selecting Libraries Worldwide. This is a good option if you have time to request a book through Interlibrary Loan.
  4. Additional Filter Options which can be selected to refine your results or unselected to expand your results.

Evaluate your results and access the book

  2. The availability tells you if the book can be checked out, where it is located, and its call number.
  3. Tools which can help you organize your research are also provided, including citation generator, sharing and saving options.
  4. If the book is available as an ebook, the View eBook button will link directly to the ebook.

More information about the book can be found by clicking on the book title on the results page which will open the book's detailed record.

  1. Under the Access Options,
  • you can access electronic content, if available.
  • see availability and location. Only one location is shown, but a link is provided to view additional copies and locations.
  • for items in the library, you can Place a Hold. When you place a hold on a book, library staff will pull the item from the shelf for you to pick up at the circulation desk or with locker delivery.
  1. Select More Item Details to see the complete book description including subject headings.
  2. Complete information about item availability and location is under See Availability of this Edition at University of Central Arkansas. This area is the only place where all the item's locations are displayed.

Known Article (Citation Resolver)

Accessing articles found in other sources

Using the search box on the library homepage enter your search terms using information from your citation.

  • If your citation includes the article title, enter the complete title surrounded by quotation marks.
  • Additional search terms (article author, journal name, etc.) can be added with an AND between each term.

For example, if you are trying to find full text of the article listed in the following citation:

Druckman, James N, et al. “Political Protesting, Race, and College Athletics: Why Diversity among Coaches Matters.” Social Science Quarterly, vol. 100, no. 4, 2019, pp. 1009–1022., doi:10.1111/ssqu.12615.

Your search terms would be:

“Political Protesting, Race, and College Athletics: Why Diversity among Coaches Matters.” AND Social Science Quarterly AND Druckman

Expanding your search

If you are not seeing your article in the search results, the next step is to expand your search to Libraries Worldwide. Expanding your search will allow you to check that your citation information is correct and provide the option to obtain the full text through the library's interlibrary loan service.

  1. Expand your search by selecting Libraries Worldwide under Held by Library to the left of the search results.
  2. On the article's brief record you will see At other libraries worldwide which indicates that it is not available at UCA.
  3. If you have time and are interested in using the interlibrary loan service, click on the article title to open the detailed record.
  4. In the detailed record, use the Request Document Delivery or Interlibrary Loan button to submit an interlibrary loan request.
